Two weeks from now, director Antun Vrdoljak will start the filming of his long anticipated project about the life of Croatian general Ante Gotovina. The movie and series will also deal with the Homeland war from the 90’s. The main role was given to Croatia’s most famous actor Goran Visnjic, who was a volunteer in the Croatian Army before starting his movie career. The project will be filmed on Dinara and Velebit mountains, as well as in locations all across the country. A number of successful actors will join Goran Visnjic for the shooting of the film and the eight-part television series on the same subject.

The filming for the upcoming feature film on the life of Croatian wartime general Ante Gotovina is scheduled to start in the second half of February. For now, the audio visualized centre has approved 1.5 million dollars for the project, which is expected to be finalized by the end of June. With another one hundred actors joining Visnjic, “General” will for sure to be a true movie spectacle, and the film director expects it to become a highly successful series. During the Croatian War of Independence, Gotovina was an important figure as he was a military chief with a hero status. After a turbulent youth and years spent as a French legionnaire, he became the leader or main chief of the Croatian army, but after the war he was imprisoned by The Hague, and was charged of war crime. After spending 7 years inside, he was released from the Hague prison in 2011. During his trial in The Hague, Goran Visnjic paid him a visit and talked to him in several occasions.

The film will trace the life of the retired general, and in addition to Goran Visnjic, there will be three more actors who will appear in the role of the general himself, portraying his life as a child and as a young man. The media speculated a lot about seeing Goran with Penelope Cruz, as the general’s first wife, but the production company behind this project has denied all rumors circulating on this subject.
